Potential and Possibility

The New Year stretches out before us all and with it comes the somewhat blank slate of how we want to shape our lives in the upcoming year. Many of us think about resolutions, goals, changes, and enhancements. As fibre artists, my guess is that many of us also are thinking about our artistry. What pieces we want to make, what new avenues we want to explore, and how can we carve out more time to devote to our artistry?
With the New Year, we also reflect back on our work over the past year. As the Art Felt Collaborative we are grateful to have had both individual and collective successes and opportunities to connect with amazing fibre artists. Three highlights were the successful launch of “Felt it Forward”, a community of felt makers in the Central Okanagan, the Canadian Felt Symposium in Penticton, an international community of felt makers and “Surfacing” our AFC show at the Salmon Arm Art Gallery. All of these connected us with other fibre artists and created threads of potentiality and possibility.
With the new year stretching out before us, there is potential and possibility in each of our works. At this stage, every piece has the potential of being our best … yet. And all have the possibility of teaching us more about ourselves, our art form and our art. So, to all, Happy New Year. May you live fully into the potential and possibilities of your art as you envision it today and as it evolves over the year.
